Is there something similiar to Google Earth?

I was wondering if there was something similiar to Google Earth that had like a street view. If there is anything that is like Google Earth I would like to know. Thanks in advance|||not that I am aware of google earth took some time to make and google is the biggest engine so the next thing in the future would be more advancements to google earth views.

Why are toll booth prices around nyc cost so much?

So i was on google earth street view and i was at a toll booth just outside of the bridge that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn (sorry i cant remember the name) and i saw a sign that said cars $9.00!! why is it so expensive?|||you're talking about the verazzano. Now, you have to remember that it's free one way. however, the tunnels, bridges, and MTA are all insanely expensive and crappy. despite the fact that the prices are insane, MTA is still billions in the red, they cut back service, raise prices, and come up with all kinds of crazy ways to fund themselves. They've talked about pricing cars going through the tunnels and bridges based on weight, so SUVs would pay more than a smaller car. It's bizarre! A lot of it has to do with politics, corruption, the unions, etc. Those MTA jerks are some of the laziest, rudest people I've ever met. All they do is sit in their booth all day and scream at people that ask a question. I believe last year, when gas prices were $4+ a gallon, MTA had record numbers of rides on the train, yet still lost billions of dollars! These people are corrupt fools that couldn't run an ice cream stand. Paterson and Bloomberg aren't much smarter. MTA, the unions, paterson, and bloomberg will all get what they deserve some day. What goes around comes around.|||It's a very long , very fascinating story that began in a very ordinary way : Somebody wanted to build a bridge and rather than raise taxes they sold bonds to pay for the construction of it

Tolls were charged to pay off the debt that was incurred by the sale of the bonds and an Authority was set up to administer all of it,.

In theory ,once the bonds were paid off the tolls should have been removed..But then the politician and the unions said harrumph harrumph harrumph, there is lot of easy money out there for the taking and as long as we keep making up bs reasons to justify why we should keep collecting tolls we can get away with this kind of legal public larceny

I remember sitting in traffic once on the Whitestone trying to calculate how much money these clowns were raking in and it occurred to me that with al,that money rather than repair the old bridges they could take 5 years to build a new bridge right next to it , tear the old one down , use the new one for 20 years and repeat the process in perpetuity .

If you want to read the best book that I can think of on the subject read Power Broker [A biography of Robert Moses] by Robert Caro|||Because politicians decide, and then they get to cross for free in government vehicles

PS its the Verrazano-Narrows bridge|||The tolls support infrastructure maintenance. Maintenance costs in NYC are very high, especially with the Wicks Law.|||because politicians need more money to fuel their private jets.

Google Earth used to show Street names. I now can't fint the setting for this.?

Can the police read license plate numbers in the street view images that Google cars take?

I was looking at a block of New York City on Google Earth. In the street view images that they do with a car that has a camera mounted on it, you can see a vehicle that is parked at a fire hydrant pull into traffic and then make a left turn into a parking lot exit (not an entrance) that has two "do not enter" signs. It is very clear that the vehicle was illegally parked, not just stopped, and that it went by both "do not enter" signs. In the images on the Internet, the resolution is not high enough to read the license plate. Should I alert the police so that they can ask Google for the originals? (I am not sure if Google lowers the resolution to save bandwidth and improve transfer time, or if the originals are just as bad as the images online?|||Yes, but why be a tattle-tale?|||you can report it, I doubt if the police will pesue it though.|||You could, but it's not worth it

Use Google Street View to Create Game World?

Is it possible to use something like Google street view to create 3D models that can be used to create game locations? Like The Getaway used London and the creators had to go round taking pictures of all the streets to make it look as real as possible. Now most of Europe, North America, Australia are just some of the places covered by Google Earth.

Is there a program that can recognize from the size of the objects in the images how big something is in real life, and then go on to build an accurate 3D model of it?

If so this could mean that people can create accurate 3D worlds or nearly the entire world, all of which could be used in games (among other things)|||I don't think that there is a program capable of building 3d models from Google maps (yet :P) but i remember stumbling across a graffiti game in which you travelled around New York in Google street-view and could paint on the side of buildings and trucks. The graphics were fairly pixellated, but the program managed to stick your graffiti to the walls, and even applied perspective when you rotated and panned the view.

Somehow this game managed to recognise how far away the buildings were, and even the angle you were viewing them from, so I'm confident that sometime soon your idea might be a reality. :)

How does google earth work?

Someone told me that google earth uses a van with a camera on it to get the images but i think its by satellites.

so i looked online and wikipedia said the street view comes from a van

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_earth#Street_View

but i went to howstuffworks.com and they said aircraft and satellite

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/google-earth1.htm

are we both right? but anybody can write on wikipedia right?

do the use satellite for just looking straight down and the van for the streets?|||You answered yourself for this one. Both sources are correct. You should know that both wikipedia and howstuffworks are trusted sources and both come with very few errors.

Originally google earth came only with the "air" view (from the satelite and aircraft cameras). It is not long since google introduced a new feature, "street view", the view taken from a special van with a camera attached. The two ways of presenting the earth are independent.

You have seen that only some cities have the streets view feature available.|||It is satellites.|||Its mainly satellites, but they will use low flying aircraft for closer shots and cars/vans for the street views.

Thanks, just wondering|||I would say easily into the terabytes. Think about your digital camera. Mine only holdes about 250 pictures on a 2gig stick. imagine how many pictures google has to have to cover the entire earth streetview. plus all of the code (which probably hits about 25 gigs to be honest). There is no street view in Belgium, Portugal,Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and most Countries to the East of these.( Although there is street view in part of The Czech Republic.) I have heard it has something to do with 'privacy', but as there is nothing stopping anyone taking a photograph of any house or other building and publishing it on the internet, I'm not inclined to believe that.

What type of camera is used for those street level 360 degree view pictures on Google Earth ?

The car I've seen around Boston is a Chevy Cobalt with a roof rack full of cameras and antennas. No way to tell what the cameras are.

Wikipedia has more details:

"Google Street View displays scans taken from a fleet of Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Astra or Toyota Prius cars in North America, Opel/Vauxhall Astras in Europe, Holden Astras in Australia and New Zealand, Toyota Prius cars in Japan, Fiat Stilos in Brazil, Toyota Yaris' in South Africa [2] and Pontiac G5 in Mexico.[3] Pedestrian areas, narrow streets and park alleys that cannot be accessed by car are not always covered. However, sometimes Google Trikes (tricycles) are used.[4] On each of these cars (and tricycles) there are nine directional cameras for the 360掳 views, GPS units for positioning, three laser range scanners, manufactured by SICK, for the measuring of up to 50 meters 180掳 in the front of the vehicle. On the cars there are also 3G/GSM/Wi-Fi antennas for scanning 3G/GSM and Wi-Fi hotspots.[5] Recently, high quality images are based on open source hardware cameras from Elphel. Ok, so I love to do these mental vacations at work with good ol' google earth street views. Today I was visiting beautiful Sydney Australia . On several occasions I kept seeing this pick-up truck car parked on the streets. What the heck is it. . . .and where can I get one.

2. Zoom in until you can see individual streets. Note that if you are close enough, the photo icons appear as spheres.

3. Click a photo icon. A balloon appears.

4. Click Show full screen. The 3D viewer displays imagery of this location.

5. To move around, double click photo icons that appear on the street. You can also look around, zoom and exit at any time.

3D view in google earth for streets?

How do you get 3d view for streets in google earth? When in 3d mode it only shows citys.|||Like 3d buildings or street view? 3D buildings are exclusive to areas where people have taken the time to build them in google skecth up. Does google earth v6 have street view maps?

cuz i cant find it in the layers options|||Pretty sure it does because i cant think of a reason they would take it out...

But street view depends on the country and area

Why does Google Earth always crash on street view?

......|||probably because its more memory intensive then the general google earth, how much ram do you have?

yea 1g of ram is not really enough considering youre probably running alot of background apps, so i would suggest either getting more ram or playing around with google maps on google, but yes, if you have a desktop its not too much money to upgrade ram, probably like 40 bucks to buy new sticks of it.

So you could do that, and it would help the overall speed of your computer, you could also format your harddrives and reinstall a new OS such as windows 7 which is free if you go on technet.com

So really whatever you want :)|||Google Earth is pretty memory intensive. Your computer needs to meet the recommended system requirements:

Recommended:

Operating System: Windows XP or Windows Vista

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+

System Memory (RAM): 512MB

Hard Disk: 2GB free space

Network Speed: 768 Kbits/sec

Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 32MB of VRAM

Screen: 1280x1024, "32-bit True Color"

If you meet all of those requirements, then make sure you aren't running any other large programs, or restart your computer.

If that still doesn't work, then you need to clear up space on your hard drive and/or defragment your hard drive. To defragment, go to Start -%26gt; Programs -%26gt; Accessories -%26gt; System Tools -%26gt; Disk Defragmenter and click "Defragment." It'll take between 30 minutes and an hour or so, and it moves around files so that your computer can find files more easily and thus perform more efficiently.

Google Maps Street View: Your thoughts?

There has been much contradiction as to whether the Google Maps Street View feature was set up and launched unethically. People were caught on camera doing things they wouldn't particularly want the entire world to be able to see; the google maps camera truck apparently trespassed into private property; most peoples houses can be seen in rather extreme detail now with the combination of google earth and street view...

Google Maps - street view or Google earth?

Which is better and what are the differences|||Depends on your needs.

Google Earth is a series of satellite images that can date back about 10 years (depending on the location). You can draw out paths and see an aerial view of earth.

Street View is a first person view from the street of the location and gives you an idea of what the area looks like on the Earth's surface. This could be urban buildings, cars, houses, landmarks, and whatever else.|||Google Earth is a more advanced version of Google Maps in which contains Google Street View...

So overall Google Earth is better because it has everything Google Maps and Street Views has along with much more detailed information.

Why aren't all residential streets in cities covered by Google Earth available for viewing on Street View yet?

Because the Street View cars haven't imaged it yet.

Is it possible to view a given address say a friend's house in USA through street view on google earth?

Yes, individual houses can be a bit blurred depending on the quality of the photgraph.|||U can, but not certain it allows you to go as close as "house number" may have to do it to nearest street corner you knwo and look manually|||Very easy, you can see the whole world...good for if you are going on a trip can plan it better

Is 'Street View' available as a feature inside the Google Earth application?

I'm not talking about the 3D building view. I mean is there a way to view certain addresses in the Street View way the same way you can view them on Google Maps. Thanks.|||Absolutely. I use it all the time...my town doesn't have any street views though :-( But yes, it's available in google earth

It's actually a primary option under the layers section. No digging around required. Just check the box for street view. It's the fourth option down in my version (which I think is the latest)|||MABYE. I LOVE THE GOOGLE MAPS ONE. I CAN SPY :)|||Street view is available in Google Earth you have to zoom in when you right click on your mouse.

How do you access the street view on Google Earth?

it can only be accessible with Google maps here is the link|||Street view is only accessible on Google Map, but not on Google Earth.

When will Google Earth update the street view?

I want to be ready so i can photobomb it|||They don't. They'd rather have an "old" version of the entire planet than an "updated" version of places they've already been.

However when you zoom in then in the right hand navigation icons an orange figure (what Google calls a pegman icon) appears - you need to then drag this figure onto the area you want to open in Street View.

When do you think Driving Directions and Street View in Google Earth/Map will be available in the Philippines?

Real time bystanders are always available for directions. You won't get lost. LOL.

Maps? Not so soon. Not so many use GPS in the Philippines.|||Considering most people cannot afford a vehicle with those features and pay for the service my guess is never.

When was the last time you saw a street sign here ? In Iloilo there are none outside the gated/guarded subdivisions. I had to learn my way around using landmarks and asking people if they knew the name of the road. Surprisingly half had no idea but they could tell you by landmarks how to get around :).|||Not anytime soon, hun.

My phone has GPS...and I can never use it.

When me and my mom go somewhere, and we have no idea where it is, we just ask people..mainly because a) there are no street signs SOMETIMES...b) the street signs are really old..and can't be read c) they're covered with ads and shizz.

But, if you're like..in Metro Manila..i don't think that's much of a problem.

And..if we do get Street View here in the Philippines, what would we see? Like, all the.."squatters" and..the like. Not really pretty. No offense. :]|||NOT IN OUR LIFETIME,BUT WE CAN ALWAYS USE OUR SENSE OF SMELL.|||When hell freezes over|||sorry... no time soon!

The government has satellite cameras that can do it today, but only one person can control the live feed location.

To get a live feed you need multiple cameras with insanely-high resolutions (to avoid zooming) to accomplish it.

On google earth, how do you view street view?

the street view icon is not there, I just downloaded google earth today.

thanks!~|||Look for the yellow stick man on the left, and drag him on to the street you want to view. That's it!|||If the yellow guy *ISN'T* there, then Street View is not yet available for that area. However, be sure he's not there, he can be a crafty little fellow. IN GOOGLE EARTH, IS STREET VIEW IS LIVE OR OLD VIEW?

No, its not live, otherwise you would see people %26amp; vehicles moving.|||Old- my house had renovations in 2005 and a new roof which was a different colour, and the picture on google earth is still the old version of the house. |||The streetview of my old neighborhood just became available about a month ago. I can tell by various markers that the street view pictures were taken about one year earlier. Cars parked. For Sale signs.. that kind of thing|||its not live, they take pictures from satelites and stitch them together every so often, probably every year|||Its old view. Or your say computer generated.|||it was last updated in '02

How do you get the horizontal street level view on google earth?

Above the 'Compass is a slider, use this, but it will only do what you want when you have something 3D to look at otherwise it just shows you a flat earth, and we all (well most of us) know the earth is not flat :0)

Street view images on Google Earth?

Are there only photos off of different streets or is there a way to see photos anywhere you want? Like for example can you just pick a spot in the middle of a field and look around? I know you can use the general Google Earth settings and look where you want. But I'm wanting a very clear photo like the street view images.|||No, actually the photos that you see on Google Earth in street view, were taken by people like you and me, just wanting to help out people for directions, cyber tourism, etc.

But, you can, as a matter of fact take other pictures, such as a 'field' and upload it to their servers.|||No. "Street view" means "street view", google isn't just going to drive into the middle of a field for you. Google will only take pictures of streets.|||Try wwwbing.com..click on maps. A lot of places have a birdseye view. I can pick a spot in the woods, field, or about anywhere I like. Also when you find like a house, building, or what ever you get a view from 4 different sides.

How you tried street view on Google earth?

It's amazing|||Yeah... it's amazing but creepy.|||Yeah. I searched my address and a giant tree is covering the majority of it. The only think you can see is part of my garage lol.|||Yes I have and it's kind of freaky to know they got that close without me knowing.

How do you use google street view? isit within google earth?

Type your postcode in the maps section of google and the select street view.

It works for Belfast and Cambridge

Here's the URL: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/mpl?layer=鈥?/a>|||When you are in Google Earth, with the left pane visible, this pane is split into sections, the top bit is where you search for somewhere, like type in a place or postcode, then in the middle you have places and My Places which you have pinpointed, and then the third section is Layers where you have roads, 3D buildings, weather etc. If you have the latest version of GoogleEarth you will see the option Street View here, so just tick that and when you go to a place you will see all the cameras along the road. Not everywhere, main towns, main roads. I know there has been a lot of controversy about this, but I think it is absolutely marvellous. I've been able to visit places I haven't been to for years, and it really is just like walking down the road.|||No it isnt, I thought the same it is actually in Google Maps. You just type in the address you want to look at and click on satellite on the right upper hand side and then on the left you will see a little yellow man which you drag across to the address which is pinpointed and click on it and it will take you on the road you are searching for, it is good fun looking at addresses of friends and family!|||It's in Google Maps. Type in where you want to go and then drag the little yellow man on the left to where you want to go, if it goes blue than it will work but if it doesnt go blue then it wont!

Hope you work it out!...|||this is what it says in paper....go to maps.google.co.uk.....and put the postcode or address in the box at the top of the page and click search......click on the orange bubble pointer and you will see a link to street view....|||i think it is within google earth.|||Google maps has a street level view in certain cities, most larger to average cities in the U.S. and only major cities in the rest of the world|||not sure eather ive tried but cant do it ...so im going to watch this question

How to install google earth and street view in windows:xp. street view doesnt work . any hints . ty very much?

Just install Google Earth. Its true not all places have Street View, but it is not true that only US cities have Street view lots of other places have street view and many places are added almost everyday. U just have to wait for bit long if ur city does not have street view. I have got my one after couple of months after their start. At first my city didnt had street view but later Google added it. And they are still adding new places everyday.

havok|||First download and install Google Earth then use street view.

The thing is that streets have to be mapped before they can be viewed, for now street view is only available to view cities of US.|||Street view only works in certain places. Go to the link and see if you have the option for street view.

GOOGLE EARTH lost street view?

HELP i can't get the street view to work i tried to uninstall and reinstall

but that didn't work|||Not every road has a street view associated with it. A lot of roads in a lot of towns and cities do not have street view.

Try looking at different areas to see if street view is really disabled or just not available for the particular location that you're looking at.|||on google earth in the layers panel, make sure that the street view box is checked (in between oceans and weather, expand the Primary Database first) then type in Las Vegas to make sure that it's working, If that doesn't work make sure that your internet is working because you need internet to use street view. If it is then what is your connection speed? because it needs to be at least DSL to work.

hope this helps|||In the lower left of the display, there is a "Layers" selection under "Places". Expand that and click on the "Street View" box.

ADD: Street View is different in Version 6. No more little cameras.

Why does "street view" in Google Earth look flat - like laying a flat photo sideways? ?

As soon as you zoom in close enough, Google Earth starts moving in horizontally, but the image starts to look terrible - like turning a flat photo sideways and trying to make out what's on it. Sure, you're closer, but if you're looking at such an extreme angle, the picture itself sucks. Where is this "street view" they're talking about and why is it supposed to be so "hot"? It looks like cra-p if you ask me. And I just downloaded Google Earth 4.3, too.|||

I dont understand it|||literally speaking they r not all satellite maps many of them are taken from plane or helicopter which is flying at low height

How do i turn street view on at google earth?

i bought a new pc so i used to have this kind of street view in some places like USA, Canada, Japan and European countries but now that i downloaded i dont know how to turn it on.

to make it more clear, there was a little camera button and when u pressed it, you jumped into street view.

thank u :)|||If I am not mistaken, you can use the "Layers" menu (on the left side of the window) to turn on street view. When you have checked the box next to the street view layer, you should be able to see icons of a photo camera on the map (if there is street view data for that place). When you click the icon it shows you a picture of the street, along with a link to open street view in full screen.

Hope this helps.|||The first thing you'll need to do is look for the Street View layer on the lower left of Google Earth and turn it on by clicking the little box to the left

I don't know how to find out when google street view pics were taken using the latest version of google earth.?

I used to live in Carson, CA. After high school graduation, left the States for medical school. Thanks to google street view I feel closer to home everytime I look at my neighborhood online. Unfortunately, I'm not going back to the US for the next 3 years, so I was wondering if I could find out WHEN did google take the pictures shown in street view.

I know many have already asked this question, but most answers say that you can "...find out by using the latest version of Google Earth". I use

Google Earth

4.3.7284.3916 (beta)

Could you please tell me the steps to find out at which date the pictures were taken?

In case there are any new buildings built which weren't there when I was there, atleast I could get an idea of when they were constructed. Thanks alot for your time :)

How can Google get the street view of everywhere in the world on Google Earth 5?

Do they just take a lot of time to drive down each street with special cameras mounted to the vehicle or do they use a Satellite?|||Google maps the Earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe. It is available under three different licenses.|||They obviously use a Satellite.|||Vehicles with camera's ~

Some are still done with sat's ~|||They drive around in van equipped with cameras. You can spot them sometimes on the road. Unmarked white vans with a contraption on the roof.|||I've actually seen the google truck doing this in a few neighborhoods in town. They have a truck with a lot of cameras on it sticking out at various angles. When they take the picture it gives you a 360 view from that position.

I think it's stills and not video but I could be wrong. I figure they take a 360 still every so many feet to get the coverage.

I see most have seen vans, but the one I saw was a Frontier or similar truck. I live in the desert though so a van usually isn't the best way to get around due to lack of pavement.|||Yes i saw an unmarked car pass my place 2 days ago it was going quite fast i thought. it has a mast on roof racks with a gps antenna and three cameras one front left and right. I think they must employee many ppl our street was already on google streets so it must have been and update|||Technology can do far more than we can imagine. of course they are using and connected with satellite.

Is google street view working in the uk yet ?

before downloading google earth, Im just wondering if street view in the uk has been put on yet, As i remember hearing a month or so ago that google will have it up before xmas.|||It will not be accessible in the UK in real time. This is because it contravenes the Data Protection Act of 1998 and under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act Europeon Convention.

Access to CTTV by the Public Domain is not allowed by the same two Acts.

Any that you do see for example on TV are several hours old or until after a court conviction and sentence.

But as I said before, you will never see it in real time here.|||Google maps does not allow my little "street view" icon guy to do anything in the UK or Ireland yet. His passport is either invalid or England's "Big Brother" surveillance people don't want the competition.

Google Earth is cute, but I'd hang out and check into maps.google.com occasionally to see if they've added street views for the UK into the database first.|||No I dont think it is yet.

How can I get a street view on Google Earth? What am I doing wrong?

I am such a dunce with this computer, I have G E installed and can see my neighborhood and home from above.

I cannot seem to get the street level view or move up and down the street. What am I missing?|||It is not you nor your computer. It is how Google Earth is formatted. When you "fly" to your address, you will get the overhead (altitude view). Now, in order to get street level, look to see if there are camera icons on your street. If there is not, you cannot get to street level. If there are, select the camera closest to your home. What looks like a crystal ball will appear and then descend to street level. Click on full picture and it fills the screen. There will also me a little window insert that will allow you to move up/down the street of to the sides. My son is stationed in Germany and when I try to see their house, the picture is clear until it gets below a certain altitude. This is also part of the format and nothing can be done about it.|||On the left side of your screen you should see a tab called layers, click that, it should pull down the options for viewing, check the box next to street view! Enjoy :)|||It depends on where you live. We are out in the country on a county road and can only look down on our place, but Mom lives on a state highway near town and we can look right at her house at street level in virtual view. It is really fun. This isn't a great answer...those above me explained it better.|||I use Google Maps. . . perfect street views and will focus on a particular address.|||I think that Granny's right about this. Why are the Philippines not included as one of the countries you can see in Street View on Google Earth, etc.?

Anybody have any idea? I just want to feel like I'm at home again by feeling like I'm "touring the streets" and I can't because Manila isn't an option in Street View or anything like that.|||It's included, dumbass. Take a closer look.|||i see a lot of people saying it is included but it is not you can look from above down but not the street as if you are driving on the streets. I think they will sooner are later include Ph but security is in question. I think it might have to do with CIA dangerous country list can you imagine a guy with a nice camera in the Ph streets driving past hookers and crooks and maybe terrorist. they would think it is something else and kill the guy.|||It's included. But it's more static in the sense that the views are more limited and you may not see every single building in every street, such as in HK or Singapore. For example, I tried the view of Glorietta 5 %26amp; Rustan's to look for exact resto locations, and they only have 4-5 views. The available views are represented with red dots on the street when you bring the "person" down to the street level.|||GUYS,Hes talking about the street view OPTION?

Second, there is already very good service from Russian company Yandex. Third, penetration of Internet in Russia is less than in USA, Western European and other rich countries. That is why chances to earn money are less.

There is no any mystics, spies and secret agents stories. Just Russia is not interesting for Google company to expand. Street view in google earth(how!?)?

I'm wondering how the hell google earth makes street view pictures, considering that hand-making them one by one is foolish... I don't know: do they use a sort of vehicle, maybe a kind of "camera-car" with a panoramic, rotating, camera on a pole...a friend of mine thought that is possible that people by their own provide taking pictures and sending them to google HQ...Any ideas???|||Your assumption is almost spot-on.

They have a whole fleet of cars, each with a roof-mounted camera "globe" array that captures a nearly complete spherical image.

It also has a high-precision GPS receiver mounted on the roof that stores Earth coordinates with each grouping of images. The coordinates are used to known precisely where the camera was positioned geographically when each image was taken.

When you move your little guy around on Google Maps, it will show you the imageset that has the same coordinates as your guy, giving you a remarkably accurate street view.

Most of the newer Street view imagery (taken with these new cameras) are so complete that you can pan the image down and see the actual car.
