Is there something similiar to Google Earth?
I was wondering if there was something similiar to Google Earth that had like a street view. If there is anything that is like Google Earth I would like to know. Thanks in advance|||not that I am aware of google earth took some time to make and google is the biggest engine so the next thing in the future would be more advancements to google earth views.
Why are toll booth prices around nyc cost so much?
So i was on google earth street view and i was at a toll booth just outside of the bridge that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn (sorry i cant remember the name) and i saw a sign that said cars $9.00!! why is it so expensive?|||you're talking about the verazzano. Now, you have to remember that it's free one way. however, the tunnels, bridges, and MTA are all insanely expensive and crappy. despite the fact that the prices are insane, MTA is still billions in the red, they cut back service, raise prices, and come up with all kinds of crazy ways to fund themselves. They've talked about pricing cars going through the tunnels and bridges based on weight, so SUVs would pay more than a smaller car. It's bizarre! A lot of it has to do with politics, corruption, the unions, etc. Those MTA jerks are some of the laziest, rudest people I've ever met. All they do is sit in their booth all day and scream at people that ask a question. I believe last year, when gas prices were $4+ a gallon, MTA had record numbers of rides on the train, yet still lost billions of dollars! These people are corrupt fools that couldn't run an ice cream stand. Paterson and Bloomberg aren't much smarter. MTA, the unions, paterson, and bloomberg will all get what they deserve some day. What goes around comes around.|||It's a very long , very fascinating story that began in a very ordinary way : Somebody wanted to build a bridge and rather than raise taxes they sold bonds to pay for the construction of it

In theory ,once the bonds were paid off the tolls should have been removed..But then the politician and the unions said harrumph harrumph harrumph, there is lot of easy money out there for the taking and as long as we keep making up bs reasons to justify why we should keep collecting tolls we can get away with this kind of legal public larceny

Google Earth used to show Street names. I now can't fint the setting for this.?
I used to be able to see all road names, They've disappeared. if it is in "layers" it isn't Roads or Street View. Can I use Google Earth to measure mileage?
I go running in my neighborhood and I am able to see my neighborhood on satellite and street view and all that on Google Earth. I'm sure there must be something to measure the mileage. Can someone tell me how to use this?|||Tools - Ruler. Click start point and drag mouse to end point.

i've just about another program like google earth called microsoft visual earth.. i love google earth (specially street view) so i wish i can get to try that new one from ms..

thank you.|||I have tried both programs.....Google Earth is much more advanced then Visual earth from Microsoft. It will be fun when both programs are updated. Google Earth is my favorite for now.

That is why you find patches at most of the places in google earth. Depending on the importance of the place, they update the pictures. Can you view something that happened on a certain street at anytime with google earth?
Google Earth pictures are often old. The picture of my house is a few years old. I can tell because of the construction that was going on in the neighborhood.|||No. It shows only the most recent image Google has available.|||No, the images generally are used for a certain length of time. How "Real-Time" is Google Earth street level photos???
I finally gave in to the urge to visit google earth and all it's extras... It's a pretty cool concept, even with the mixed feelings on privacy issues. I was even able to locate a friend's address, zoom to street level and even view his front door!
What I'd really want to know is; when was that picture taken? today, yesterday... Last week, last year? Also, is the refresh rate different by location?

On google earth how do they get the pictures of homes from the street view?
They drive by in a van with a camera mounted on the roof looking in many directions (including up and down) at the same time. Software puts the pictures together adding intermediate viewpoints.|||They have a fleet of vans and cars that drive around neighborhoods and take multiple pictures with a series of cameras on top of a pole. (no really).

Where does google earth get its street views from?
There's actually a car they drive around with a camera mounted on top that takes a 360 shot of the area they want to create the street-view panorama. They use multiple cars all sponsored by Google. Here's a picture taken of one of the cameras on top of the car.

Giant photograph on Google Earth problem?
I dragged in photo to compare with a street view on Google Earth, and now I seem to be stuck with it, and it's covering half the country. I've tried removing Google Earth, rebooting and uploading again, but still the photo is there.|||I found a thread at the developer support section on Google Groups that references a helpful thread about removing screen overlays in Google Earth, which seems to be the problem you are having. Apparently the solution involves tweaking some code; perhaps you can figure it out.

Can the police read license plate numbers in the street view images that Google cars take?
I was looking at a block of New York City on Google Earth. In the street view images that they do with a car that has a camera mounted on it, you can see a vehicle that is parked at a fire hydrant pull into traffic and then make a left turn into a parking lot exit (not an entrance) that has two "do not enter" signs. It is very clear that the vehicle was illegally parked, not just stopped, and that it went by both "do not enter" signs. In the images on the Internet, the resolution is not high enough to read the license plate. Should I alert the police so that they can ask Google for the originals? (I am not sure if Google lowers the resolution to save bandwidth and improve transfer time, or if the originals are just as bad as the images online?|||Yes, but why be a tattle-tale?|||you can report it, I doubt if the police will pesue it though.|||You could, but it's not worth it

Use Google Street View to Create Game World?
Is it possible to use something like Google street view to create 3D models that can be used to create game locations? Like The Getaway used London and the creators had to go round taking pictures of all the streets to make it look as real as possible. Now most of Europe, North America, Australia are just some of the places covered by Google Earth.
Is there a program that can recognize from the size of the objects in the images how big something is in real life, and then go on to build an accurate 3D model of it?
If so this could mean that people can create accurate 3D worlds or nearly the entire world, all of which could be used in games (among other things)|||I don't think that there is a program capable of building 3d models from Google maps (yet :P) but i remember stumbling across a graffiti game in which you travelled around New York in Google street-view and could paint on the side of buildings and trucks. The graphics were fairly pixellated, but the program managed to stick your graffiti to the walls, and even applied perspective when you rotated and panned the view.
Somehow this game managed to recognise how far away the buildings were, and even the angle you were viewing them from, so I'm confident that sometime soon your idea might be a reality. :)

Google earth?- arrows? how can i roam around area myself?
hi everyone, i am looking on google earth and just want to roam around my village. The other day i was doing so, there were white arrows on the road that you could just click on and you would end up further down the road and go left/right wherever you wanted by yourself. It's very expensive because special vehicles have to drive up and down each road taking photographs.

for some reason i cant get the street views,,my mom does..but the link is there but it always goes to the satellites but only above about 100 ft..no street view...anyone know about this?????|||Well not all places have street view (indicated by a blue line) But when you select a location you can usually choose street view if you can't then it's not available.

There is no street view in Belgium, Portugal,Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and most Countries to the East of these.( Although there is street view in part of The Czech Republic.) I have heard it has something to do with 'privacy', but as there is nothing stopping anyone taking a photograph of any house or other building and publishing it on the internet, I'm not inclined to believe that.

You can also go back in time to look at what you are looking used to look like. Nut they don't tell you when the they are going to update the picture. How is google earth better than google map?
Google map also has street views. Google earth requires installation. How is one better than the other? Thanks for answering!!!|||Google Earth gives a much bigger picture, and it's easier to zoom in and out and fly around. And you can change the viewing angle and elevation. And there are a ton of other features, most of which I don't even use, but they're there.

The car I've seen around Boston is a Chevy Cobalt with a roof rack full of cameras and antennas. No way to tell what the cameras are.

3D view in google earth for streets?
How do you get 3d view for streets in google earth? When in 3d mode it only shows citys.|||Like 3d buildings or street view? 3D buildings are exclusive to areas where people have taken the time to build them in google skecth up. This is usually in metropolitan cities and major, popular places like Disneyland. For street view which is picture from the street click on the camera that line the streets.

Google Maps Street View: Your thoughts?
There has been much contradiction as to whether the Google Maps Street View feature was set up and launched unethically. People were caught on camera doing things they wouldn't particularly want the entire world to be able to see; the google maps camera truck apparently trespassed into private property; most peoples houses can be seen in rather extreme detail now with the combination of google earth and street view...
what do you think? does it (or would it) bug you to have your home visible on the site? do you think that the problems brought across by the setting up and launching of the site outweigh the benefits or vice versa?|||i can see my fat neighbor on it|||I live in a condo so I wouldn't care.

i searched on google but i couldnt find the street view only google earth|||Its in google maps, not google earth|||Google street view is only available in google maps (maps.google.com) and only in certain locations. You can tell of the location is street view capable by dragging the little yellow man on the left side of the web site onto the street you would like to see. As an alternative to street view, you can use Bing Maps which has a "Birds eye view" and gives you an over head shot of a location from an airplane. In this case you go to local.live.com and zoom in on the area in question, then at the top in the drop down window select "birds eye view" and you will see a more detailed shot.

I've downloaded the latest version of Google Earth but still don't get little cameras on tri-pods icons I can click on to see my house from the front. What settings do I need to change?

When you get there look towards the top of the map and choose "Street View (New)". Now you will see Cameras in different places on the map. Click on a camera and Choose to "Zoom In". When you open Google Earth, down in the left-hand corner there's a box entitled "Layers". Why aren't all residential streets in cities covered by Google Earth available for viewing on Street View yet?
Because the Street View cars haven't imaged it yet.

I went on google earth today and the street view was missing, anybody know why?
I don't know how to get it back, or did they take it off, I have had it always.|||It looks like the Street View interface has changed. I also could not find the layer tick box today in Google Earth 6 here.
However when you zoom in then in the right hand navigation icons an orange figure (what Google calls a pegman icon) appears - you need to then drag this figure onto the area you want to open in Street View.

How can i see live street view with the people moving and the traffic on google?

No, its not live, otherwise you would see people %26amp; vehicles moving.|||Old- my house had renovations in 2005 and a new roof which was a different colour, and the picture on google earth is still the old version of the house. |||The streetview of my old neighborhood just became available about a month ago. I can tell by various markers that the street view pictures were taken about one year earlier. Cars parked. For Sale signs.. that kind of thing|||its not live, they take pictures from satelites and stitch them together every so often, probably every year|||Its old view. Or your say computer generated.|||it was last updated in '02

Above the 'Compass is a slider, use this, but it will only do what you want when you have something 3D to look at otherwise it just shows you a flat earth, and we all (well most of us) know the earth is not flat :0)

Just install Google Earth. Its true not all places have Street View, but it is not true that only US cities have Street view lots of other places have street view and many places are added almost everyday. U just have to wait for bit long if ur city does not have street view. I have got my one after couple of months after their start. At first my city didnt had street view but later Google added it. And they are still adding new places everyday.

Try looking at different areas to see if street view is really disabled or just not available for the particular location that you're looking at.|||on google earth in the layers panel, make sure that the street view box is checked (in between oceans and weather, expand the Primary Database first) then type in Las Vegas to make sure that it's working, If that doesn't work make sure that your internet is working because you need internet to use street view. If it is then what is your connection speed? because it needs to be at least DSL to work.

Why does "street view" in Google Earth look flat - like laying a flat photo sideways? ?
As soon as you zoom in close enough, Google Earth starts moving in horizontally, but the image starts to look terrible - like turning a flat photo sideways and trying to make out what's on it. Sure, you're closer, but if you're looking at such an extreme angle, the picture itself sucks. Where is this "street view" they're talking about and why is it supposed to be so "hot"? It looks like cra-p if you ask me. And I just downloaded Google Earth 4.3, too.|||

i bought a new pc so i used to have this kind of street view in some places like USA, Canada, Japan and European countries but now that i downloaded i dont know how to turn it on.
to make it more clear, there was a little camera button and when u pressed it, you jumped into street view.

When you have checked the box next to the street view layer, you should be able to see icons of a photo camera on the map (if there is street view data for that place). I used to live in Carson, CA. After high school graduation, left the States for medical school. Thanks to google street view I feel closer to home everytime I look at my neighborhood online. Unfortunately, I'm not going back to the US for the next 3 years, so I was wondering if I could find out WHEN did google take the pictures shown in street view.

before downloading google earth, Im just wondering if street view in the uk has been put on yet, As i remember hearing a month or so ago that google will have it up before xmas.|||It will not be accessible in the UK in real time. Any that you do see for example on TV are several hours old or until after a court conviction and sentence.

like how did they get all the pictures for it?|||It's actually really neat - they sent Google cars down the streets with panoramic cameras attached and drove slowly. I'm really not joking. I am such a dunce with this computer, I have G E installed and can see my neighborhood and home from above.
I cannot seem to get the street level view or move up and down the street. What am I missing?|||It is not you nor your computer. It is how Google Earth is formatted. When you "fly" to your address, you will get the overhead (altitude view). Now, in order to get street level, look to see if there are camera icons on your street. If there is not, you cannot get to street level. If there are, select the camera closest to your home. What looks like a crystal ball will appear and then descend to street level. Click on full picture and it fills the screen. There will also me a little window insert that will allow you to move up/down the street of to the sides. My son is stationed in Germany and when I try to see their house, the picture is clear until it gets below a certain altitude. This is also part of the format and nothing can be done about it.|||On the left side of your screen you should see a tab called layers, click that, it should pull down the options for viewing, check the box next to street view! Enjoy :)|||It depends on where you live. We are out in the country on a county road and can only look down on our place, but Mom lives on a state highway near town and we can look right at her house at street level in virtual view. It is really fun. When you drag - you have to hold down the cursor.
DeeJay|||Some places stay in focus better on G E and I think the X mode is better. To move up or down the street just put the cursor hand on it or
anywhere, hold left click and the hand will grip the earth. Then just pull the earth with the mouse. A tip if you can't see something for the
trees, back-up the months into winter to loose the leaves. I have never tried street level, but maybe 100 feet above. If you want a wow view, fly to the address where I had my patent work done...

I cannot seem to get the street level view or move up and down the street. What am I missing?|||It is not you nor your computer. It is how Google Earth is formatted. When you "fly" to your address, you will get the overhead (altitude view). Now, in order to get street level, look to see if there are camera icons on your street. If there is not, you cannot get to street level. If there are, select the camera closest to your home. What looks like a crystal ball will appear and then descend to street level. Click on full picture and it fills the screen. There will also me a little window insert that will allow you to move up/down the street of to the sides. My son is stationed in Germany and when I try to see their house, the picture is clear until it gets below a certain altitude. This is also part of the format and nothing can be done about it.|||On the left side of your screen you should see a tab called layers, click that, it should pull down the options for viewing, check the box next to street view! Enjoy :)|||It depends on where you live. We are out in the country on a county road and can only look down on our place, but Mom lives on a state highway near town and we can look right at her house at street level in virtual view. anywhere, hold left click and the hand will grip the earth. Then just pull the earth with the mouse. A tip if you can't see something for the
trees, back-up the months into winter to loose the leaves. I have never tried street level, but maybe 100 feet above. If you want a wow view, fly to the address where I had my patent work done...

Can i download plugins for street view on google Earth 5.0?
We i have the new google earth 5.0 which is cool but some roads are shown and others arent in street view. I was wanting to know if I could download something or maybe a plugin out there that can show me more street view photos.. I don't think you can as Street View uses Flash and the iPod/iPad/iPhone can't handle it, why Apple won't allow Flash on iDevices.

Why can't I do street view on Google Earth in Russia?
I want to see what Russia looks like and Google Earth doesn't have street view in Russia?|||Maybe that's because the Russian government hasn't let Google run around on the street with their cameras. They're kinda paranoid over there.

I'm wondering how the hell google earth makes street view pictures, considering that hand-making them one by one is foolish... I don't know: do they use a sort of vehicle,maybe a kind of "camera-car" with a panoramic,rotating,camera on a pole...a friend of mine thought that is possible that people by their own provide taking pictures and sending them to google HQ...Any ideas???|||Your assumption is almost spot-on.

Google Earth 5, street view isn't working?
How do I do that street view or uh.. 3D building view on Google Earth? I have the newest version at the moment. I checked the box that says 3D buildings on the sidebar, still doesn't seem to work. When I zoom in, the buildings are still flat %26gt;.%26gt;

How to restore Google Earth street level views.?
For a year or so I was getting good service from Google Earth. When I dragged the yellow man down to the street level I was getting good quality street level views.
Suddenly this has stopped. The street level view screen is just black and I can't get a street level image.
Anyone know how I can restore the street level view?|||Try uninstalling it and then reinstall it. or it could be somthing to do with your adobe flash reader. maybe that needs updating. or you could do a system restore to a earlyer date when everything was ok. hope this helps. good luck.
