Google Earth Street View Question?

On Google Earth Street View, are the pictures taken from a satilite or a mobile unit?|||Found this on the Google Earth Wiki page:

Google Street View

Shows placemarks with 360 degree panoramic views of streets of many cities in Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, the United States, and recently the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and India.

I know that a car goes around with a 360 degree panoramic camera on the top of it though as I've seen it.|||from a car that has a camera on the top.....|||Its Satellite|||idk because in some pics u can see the shadow of the "google truck"|||Google Earth and Street View are different things.

Google Street View is an addition to Maps and shows 360 deg views taken from a mobile camera unit like this:

Google Earth images are taken by satellite..
