Google earth - how do you get top view instead of street view?

Hi, I only get a street view. do I have to download something to get the top view or is it supposed to work if I go to maps.google.com?I see the building from the side although my home inspector is also able to see its roof from above(?) THANKS.|||There should be a satellite view option?
